Yep, we did it. Day one is in the books. We had a decent turnout and a great time together. The focus of the service was getting past our images of God and how these images can sometimes prevent us from knowing the real God. There is no question that God is a mystery and sometimes we just have to be content with that fact. This does not mean that we shouldn’t try to seek God or to know God, but it does mean that we should be cognizant of not creating images of God that aren’t real. After the message, some cool music, and some great discussion, we drew our images of God as we perceive the divine. We shared our images of how we perceive God and then went outside and burned them. Sacrilegious? Nah. Just a fun way of symbolizing our desire to genuinely know God without any barriers.
