On Sunday, we had a healing and anointing service. We discussed sin and how the view that sin is something against God is somewhat antiquated. Instead, we should see sin for what it is – the hurtful actions that we perpetrate toward others that sever relationships and leave emotional wounds. We discussed the East Asian concept of han and how it is what is left over emotionally and spiritually when someone is hurt. Too often, we do something against someone (or have something done against us) and the perpetrator asks God for forgiveness, believes that the forgiving has been done, and goes on their way expecting the “victim” to be doing just as well as they are.
